What to Wear for a Corporate Headshot in Sydney

Choosing an outfit for a corporate headshot can feel more stressful than the shoot itself. You want to look polished, current, and like yourself — not like you borrowed someone else's wardrobe for the day. Here's how to get it right.

Start With Solid Colours

Solid, mid-tone colours photograph best. Navy, charcoal, burgundy, and deep green all read as professional without looking flat. Avoid busy patterns, fine stripes, and checks — they can create a distracting moiré effect on camera and pull attention away from your face.

Choose a Neckline That Suits Your Industry

A structured blazer or shirt with a collar works well for corporate, legal, and finance roles. If your industry is more relaxed — creative, tech, coaching — a smart-casual top or a soft knit can feel more authentic. The goal is to look like the best version of how you already dress for work, not a version of someone else.

Bring at Least Two Outfits

Even for a single-look package, having a backup gives you options once you see the images on screen. A simple swap — jacket on, jacket off, or a different top underneath — can noticeably change the mood of a shot without needing a full outfit change.

Iron, Steam, and Check for Lint Before You Arrive

Camera flash and studio lighting pick up creases and lint far more than the naked eye does. A garment steamer is worth the five minutes it takes, and a lint roller in your bag is a small habit that saves a lot of retouching time.

Avoid These on Camera

  • Busy patterns, fine stripes, or checks (they can shimmer or distort on camera)

  • Very bright or neon colours, which can cast an unflattering colour tone onto your skin

  • Logos or text on clothing

  • Noisy or reflective jewellery that catches the studio lights

Think About Where the Photo Will Live

A LinkedIn profile photo, an email signature, and a printed annual report all crop differently. If you know where the image is headed, mention it before your session — it can shape how tight or wide we frame the shot

Still deciding what package suits you? Our corporate headshot sessions include hair and makeup, wardrobe guidance on the day, and professional retouching, so you're not figuring any of this out alone.
